This is the first round in a series of interviews I will be conducting in preparation for my Thesis. My topic is (drum roll…) Marketing the Amazon Kindle to the Baby Boomer Generation. Why? Baby boomers compose nearly one third of Canadas total population. There are 76 million of them in the US They are the largest demographic of subscribers to traditional print media. (newspapers, magazines etc.) Media corporations are in the midst of a well-publicized struggle to remain profitable in the wake of the internet. The face of the written word is changing. Yet Amazon, albeit a giant, faces an onslaught of competitors from the likes of Apple (Ipad anyone?) Sony and others. My idea: Make the Kindle the boomers device. If Amazon can get them to put down their paper books and pick up the Kindle they will be tapping into a demographic that has the leisure time upon retirement and the interest to read.
